Community guidelines

Talkonymous works because strangers treat each other well. Being anonymous doesn't mean anything goes: these rules apply to every call and every chat.
Welcome here
- Curiosity, good conversation, and talking about the things you love.
- Practising a language, sharing advice, or just a late-night chat.
- Disagreeing respectfully.
- Ending a conversation politely, or simply tapping Next. Nobody owes anyone a conversation.
Not allowed
Zero tolerance: the longest bans, permanent for repeat offenders
- Any sexual content involving minors, or any attempt to contact, groom or exploit someone under 18. See Child safety standards.
- Threats of violence, encouraging self-harm, or terrorism.
Results in a ban
- Harassment, bullying, hate speech, or slurs about anyone's religion, caste, race, gender, sexuality, disability or nationality.
- Unwanted sexual talk or content, or pressuring anyone for it.
- Recording or screenshotting someone without their consent, or sharing anyone's personal information.
- Trying to uncover someone's real identity, or asking for phone numbers, addresses or social handles in order to harass.
- Scams, spam, advertising, asking for money, or links to malware.
- Impersonating Talkonymous staff or someone else.
- Selling or promoting illegal goods, drugs or weapons.
Reporting and blocking
- Report (the flag icon in any call or chat, or on the "call ended" screen) and choose a reason. The other person isn't told.
- Block to end the conversation and never be matched with that person again.
- Report anyone who seems to be under 18 with "Seems under 18". We treat these reports with the highest priority.
How enforcement works
| Offence | Action |
|---|---|
| Reported by several different people | Automatic ban: 1 day |
| Banned again | 7 days |
| Reports for "Seems under 18" or sexual content | Severe: banned after fewer reports, straight to 30 days |
| A third ban | Permanent |
If you think you were banned by mistake, contact us through the contact page.
Look after yourself
Never share your real name, phone number, address, school, workplace or financial details. Leave any conversation that feels wrong. More tips are in the Safety centre.
